«Apparatus I» at Eugénio de Almeida Foundation Évora, Portugal

30.09.2023—07.04.2024

curated by José Alberto Ferreira

«On his journey, he confronts himself and us with the concerns of pictorial illusion, exploring the possibilities of representation while testing its limits, proposing an elaborate and often subtle system of approach to the conventions and devices of painting and the museum apparatus, which he interrogates, defeats, neutralises and exposes with a corrosive sense of humour and agile irony. It's almost always about leading the viewer into a game: between what they see and what they think they see, between revealing and concealing, between proving and appearing. It's almost always about leading the viewer into the dazzle of the painting, while at the same time subtly de-territorialising the logic of circulation in the space, trapping the scales that rhythm the presence of the works in the space, and hiding the primary materiality of the game of painting in the space. And it is for the sake of this game that the invitation is renewed each time.»
